To prevent workflows from breaking and to protect your data, run the dependency checker before you change the data type of a field. The dependency checker will detect, for example, if fields are used to run workflows, or used in private or public searches, and integrations.
Before you start
Read Changing the data types of fields before you change the data type.
Procedure
To run the data dependency checker, complete the following steps:
- Click Configuration > Data model.
- Select an object from the Objects list.
- Click the field.
- Click the DEPENDENCIES tab.
- Click LOAD RELATIONS.
- Click the BLOCKERS tab and open the workflow.
- Remove the field that is used in the workflow. You can reinsert it after you change the data type.
- Save your changes.
- Return to the BLOCKERS tab and run the dependency checker again.
- When you have resolved all of the blockers, return to the INFORMATION tab, and then change the data type.
- Save your changes.
Next steps
Open the workflow and reinsert the field that was removed. Save, validate, and run the workflow to ensure that the workflow is running as expected.
Important
If you change the data type and don't run the dependency checker, check all references to the field to make sure that everything, such as workflows and searches, work as expected.
