Dashboards, charts, and tables

Visualize the information that is critical to your business operations. And, get actionable insights at a glance from the information and metrics that are ingested by Oomnitza. 

You can create dashboards that quickly transform information into compelling charts. For example, depending on the information that is ingested into Oomnitza, you can create a chart that shows devices that are security compliant, devices that are reaching end-of-warranty, asset purchase prices, SaaS annual spend, and much more.

Creating a new dashboard

You can create a new dashboard, which acts as a container for one or more related charts or tables.

Note
To create charts and tables, you use widgets.

For example, you can create an endpoints dashboard, and then add charts for the different endpoints such as a chart for laptops, for network devices, for mobile phones, and so on. Alternatively, you can add charts to dashboards that were already created. 

1. Click Dashboard.
2. From the General Dashboard list, click Create New Dashboard.
3. Enter the name of the dashboard.
4. Enter a description of the dashboard.
5. From the Access Type list, choose one of the following options : 
   1. System Global. Any user with role permissions to view dashboards has access.
   2. Role specific. Only users with the roles that you select can access the dashboard.
6. From the Dashboard type list, choose one of the following options
   • Basic
   • Advanced. This option is only available if the EazyBI integration is enabled in your environment.
7. Click SAVE.

Adding a chart or widget

You want to add a chart to the dashboard that you created that shows the location of all your Dell laptops.

To do this you create a saved assets search. For example, to find out how many Dell laptops your organization has, you create a search with the following search criteria:

• Manufacturer = Dell
• Asset Type = Laptop

You save the search as a public search and you select the users by roles who are allowed to view the chart.

You create the chart so that you can see at a glance the number of Dell laptops owned by your organization and the location of the laptops.  

1. Click Add Widget.
2. Enter the name of the chart such as Dell Laptops by Location.
3. In the Visible to list, you can accept the default visible to all, or you can add user roles. Only users with the roles that you specify can access the chart.
4. Select Allow table view so that you can switch the chart to table view. 
5. To select the report that you created, ensure that Assets is selected, and from the All Entities list select the the report. (Alternatively, you can select an entity or all entities for the object from the All Entities list.)
6. Select Bar Chart as the type of chart.
7. Enter the name of the label for the y-axis such as Location.
8. Select the type of calculation such as Total as you want to know the total number of Dell laptops in each location.
9. Enter the name of the label for the x-axis.
10. Select the name of the field that you want to use as the data source such as Location.
11. Choose the selection type, the number of items that you want to be shown in the chart, and the display order.
12. Click SAVE.

You can create the following types of charts:

• Bar chart
• Counter chart
• Donut chart . 
• Integrations status chart . Create a table view chart that lists the integrations, the start and end run dates and times, and the status of each run. 
• Stacked bar chart .
• Table-view .  You can send the information that is shown by email to yourself or export the information so that you can share it with colleagues. 

Tutorial: Creating laptops by location chart(new)

Before you begin

You create a search and save it so that you use the search to retrieve the data that you want to see in your chart. In this scenario, you choose the following search criteria for your search:

• Manufacturer = Is not empty. Alternatively, you can list the manufacturers such as Manufacturer = Dell Apple, and so on.  
• Asset Type = Laptop

You save the search as a public search and you select the roles of the users who are allowed to view the chart. In this scenario, you select All.

1. Click Add Widget.
2. Select Bar Chart as the type of chart.
3. Enter the name of the chart.
4. In the Visible to list, you accept the default visible to all.
5. Select Allow table view so that you can switch the chart to table view. 
6. Ensure that Assets is selected as the object.
7. From the Saved search list select your report. (Alternatively, you can select an entity or all entities for the object.)
8. Enter the name of the label for the y-axis such as Laptops.
9. Select the type of calculation such as Total as you want to know the total number of laptops in each location.
10. Enter the name of the label for the x-axis such as Location or Laptop Locations.
11. Select the name of the field that you want to use as the data source such as Location.
12. Choose the selection type, the number of items that you want to be shown in the chart, and the display order.
13. Click SAVE.

General settings

Chart name

The name of the chart.

Visible to

Specify who can view the chart.

Data source

You can select an attribute of an object or you can use a saved report to filter the data that is shown in the chart.

Chart types 

Select the type of chart that you want to use to visualize the data.

Depending on the type of chart that you create, you might have additional or different configuration options.

If you choose Table as the chart type, you can send the information that is shown in the table by email to yourself and you can export the information. 

Measurement (Y-Axis) settings

Name

The name of the Y-AXIS.

Calculation type

You can choose total, sum, or average. If you select sum,  you must select the sum field.

Dimension (X-Axis)

Name

The name of the X-AXIS.

Field

The data source for X-Axis values.

Empty Value Title

The name of the column, slice, and so on that you want to use when values aren't retrieved . 

Selection Type

You can choose one of the following options:

• Top by. Select items with the highest values.
• Bottom by. Select items with the lowest values.
• Manual. Choose the items that you want to show in the chart.

Show

Available for top by and bottom by selection and for bar charts, stacked bar charts, and donut charts.

Specify the number of bars or slices that you want to show in the chart. 

Display Order

Choose one of the following display orders:

• A-Z
• Z-A
• Ascending
• Descending

Decomposition settings

Only available for stacked bar charts.

For stacked bar charts, you add a right-sidebar that shows additional information about the chart. Let's say, you create a stacked bar chart for assets by location. And, you want to have a breakdown of the assets that are shown by status.

In the Decomposition section on the Widget Configuration field, you select Status as the Name.

You can also add an Empty Value Title. For example, if the status value for an asset is unavailable, you might add Status Unavailable in the Empty Value Title field.     

Titles

Only available for Counter charts.

To make the information in counter type charts more compelling, you can add the following chart labels:

• Top Title
• Bottom Title
• Prefix 
• Postfix
