Best practice
For the integration with Oomnitza, create a dedicated user account.
Tableau uses Session-Based authentication and requires the following information to be added to Oomnitza:
- Your Tableau credentials
- Your Tableau Site Name
- Your Tableau URL
- The API version.
Credentials
You can use your Tableau Server or Cloud credentials. The Tableau integration for Oomnitza supports Tableau Server and Cloud.
The Tableau integration for Oomnitza enables you to supply your username and password or Personal Access Token (PAT) credentials. If your Tableau account has multi-factor authentication (MFA) enabled, you must use PAT authentication.
You will need to complete the following steps to obtain your PAT token:
- Configure PAT creation and expiration on the Settings page. See Tableau Cloud Help: Site settings for personal access tokens
- Next, you need to create the token on your personal Account Settings page. See Tableau Cloud Help: Manage your Account Settings
Site Name
Your Tableau Site Name is visible when you sign in to Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud manually, and is the value that appears after/site/in the browser address bar. For example:
(Tableau Server)http://MyServer/#/site/MarketingTeam/projects
(Tableau Cloud)https://10ay.online.tableau.com/#/site/MarketingTeam/workbooks
For Tableau Server, if you use the default site enter defaultwhen Adding your Credentials.
URL
Your Tableau URL is your full URL. For example, https://10ay.online.tableau.com
API Version
You must substitute the API version number of your own server for theversionplaceholder.
For information on Tableau Server versions, see Tableau API Documentation: Tableau Server versions and REST API versions.
The APIs used in this integration support version 1.0 and later.
Getting your API version in Tableau Cloud
There is a quick workaround for you to obtain your API version in Tableau Cloud, which can be achieved when you are logged into Tableau. Simply enter your full URL, (in this case https://dub01.online.tableau.com/) and append the following api/2.4/serverinfoin your browser window. Even though the version number you supplied was an old one, the response will send the correct version back to you - in this case 3.17. You can use this value when adding the credentials.
