You can use spreadsheets to bulk upload custom object records.
Before you start
Illustration of steps for importing records
You can add new records to custom objects or records to custom objects that you already created.
If you want to add new records to a new custom object, you must create the custom object first.
When you add records, you must include the mandatory fields and values for the records.
Tip
Ensure that the global variable system.block_import_if_empty_mandatory_field_detected
is set to true in Global settings to block the import if mandatory fields are not detected.
In the import file, names of the fields are the column headings. Let's say you want to add a new currency, Euro, to record budgeted costs for SaaS contracts.
You add the field names as the column headers and then you enter the values.
Full currency name | Name | Rate to company currency | Sign |
Euro | EUR | 1.2 | € |
Tips
To find out which fields are mandatory, click the custom object and note which fields have a red asterisk.
To prepare an import file, export a file and then modify it to suit your purposes.
To get the benefits of smart mapping, ensure the column names in your spreadsheet match the names of the fields in the record.
Importing the records of a custom object
Important
The record limit for each custom object that you add is 1,000. If you need to add more than 1,000 records, contact Support. If the file that you import contains more than 1,000 records, the import option will be disabled. Or, if the import will result in the record limit being exceeded, the import option will be disabled.
- Click Configuration > Data Model > Objects.
- Search for the custom object.
- Click the custom object.
- Click the number in the Total records field.
- Click Import.
- Upload the file.
- Select Create as the import preference.
- Click CONTINUE.
- Click SMART MAPPING.
- Select Name as the sync key.
